There is a principal for which I stand
A decree that governs no mans land
An invisible force one can not see
A belief however I still do seek
An element of love and of kindness
Most forsake for hatered and blindness
It's shattered now and broken apart
And one man can't repair it unless another man starts
We take to arms and fight for it
The irony consumes me as I watch men forget
It craves not the blood in it's name being shed
Yearning not for the bodies of so many dead
It cares not for difference of any color
Choosing not one man from another
And when this life fades it carries the weak
For it is peace of which I speak.

What do you see

When you look down at me

Do you see the man that you hoped I would be

Do you see that you have taught me well

Or is it in my works that you can tell

My life is a chapter of what is your story

A continuation of your enduring glory

Sometimes I have won, sometimes I have failed

Often I’ve wondered if life were derailed

But I’ve stood tall with pride

Knowing you watched as I tried

I’ve lived a life of your lessons indeed

Even helping a stranger in need

I was young when you went though I knew you must go

And as you look down upon me I hope you will know

Your love and your guidance I always will miss

But I live ever granting an old man’s last wish

The Old Man’s Wish

by

My time has come and it has passed

The sands have shifted in my hourglass

Through blurry eyes I watched my days

Creep upon me like rolling waves

These hands may shake and might be old

If only for the stories they’ve told

Behold these wrinkles upon my face

Each one a tale of a time and place

I’ve lived a lifetime of joy and pain

Felt warm sunshine and held the rain

I’ve chased my dreams and let some go

But here is all you need to know

I’ve touched a heart a time or two

And helped a man I never knew

This legacy I leave behind

For all who seek and care to find

Leave nothing empty and dare to chance

And may you touch a life so it might dance
